This study is being conducted in Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire recruiting people with Fatty Liver Disease from GP practices: 6 in Hull and 3 in East Riding.

The primary objective of the study is to determine whether using liver fibrosis biomarkers (ELF test) as part of a new care pathway can help GPs decide whether a patient requires a referral to secondary care or not. In this study, all recruited patients have an ELF test and are stratified into primary or secondary care groups depending on the test result. Follow-up of routine care, takes place over 6 months.

We are particularly interested to see if the ELF test results correlate to standard measures of fibrosis 'risk' such as the raised BARD scores, BMI and ALT.

We hope to be able to publish the results in Autumn of 2013 with a view to developing a larger Randomised Controlled Trial based upon these results
